Barskaun

 

(also Barskon), a pass through the Terskei-Alatau Range in the Tien-Shan in the Kirghiz SSR. Barskaun is situated at an elevation of 3,754 m. A motor road goes through Barskaun from the basin of Lake Issyk-Kul’ into Inner Tien-Shan.

In 1998, an accident involving a truck carrying chemicals to the mine released large amounts of cyanide into the Barskaun River, which environmental groups say resulted in hundreds of local people being hospitalized.
