In east-central TX, southeast of Austin; organized Mar 17, 1836 (prior to statehood) from Old Mexican Municipality. Name Origin: For Felipe Enrique Neri (?-1828), Baron de Bastrop, who established a colony of Germans in TX (1823); first commissioner of Austin's colony (1824)
