Beadle, Erastus (Flavel)

(1821–94) publisher; born in Pierstown, N.Y. Establishing a printing business in 1852, he published popular songbooks and the first "dime novels," inexpensive, paper-bound, fast-paced adventure novels with heroes like Nick Carter and Deadwood Dick.
