On southwestern border of LA, north of Lake Charles; organized Jun 12, 1912 from Calcasieu Parish. Name Origin: For Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard (1818-93), superintendent at West Point who resigned to join the Confederate army (1861); he was the general who directed the bombardment of Fort Sumter and battles of Bull Run and Shiloh
