On the central southern border of SD, southeast of Rapid City; created Mar 9, 1909 from Indian lands. Name Origin: For either John E. Bennett, SD supreme court judge, or jointly for John E. Bennett and Granville G. Bennett, IL legislator and federally appointed judge in Dakota Territory
