an urban-type settlement in Ermentau Raion, Tselinograd Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Located in the northeastern part of the oblast, 75 km east of the Aksu railroad station. Population, 13,100 (1968). Gold is mined there.

Kommersant reports today that Kazakh authorities have seized accounts and property belonging to KazakhGold's KazakhAltyn subsidiary, which holds its entire production assets in Kazakhstan, including licenses for the Aksu, Bestobe, and Zholymbet gold deposits.
As a temporary economic measure, management has decided to stockpile concentrates at its still producing Bestobe operation until the CIP plant is operational.
In a related move, the Company has increased operations at the Company's Bestobe Mine from five to seven days per week and an emphasis has been placed on production from high-grade free milling gold veins (gravity concentrate).
