Bicaz

 

a city (since 1960) in eastern Rumania, in Neamt, District. Located on the Bistrija River at the point at which the Bicaz River empties into it, near the gorge in the eastern Carpathians, where the V. I. Lenin Hydroelectric Power Station was built in 1960. It is connected with Bacáu by rail and highway. Bicaz has cement and asbestoscement plants and is a center of tourism.

Crossing the border at Bicaz, I explained both to the soldiers around me and to the civilian Romanian population that I was meeting on the way, that we are living great days, that whole generations died wishing to see the fall of the unjust border stones and the coming of the flags of the free Romania on Transylvanian land.

Some of the older and most discussed projects bilaterally were either infrastructure projects (the Bucharest second beltway, plus other highway sectors countrywide; the Danube-Bucharest Canal; the Siret--Baragan Canal; the Braila--Galati bridge over the Danube), or projects in conventional energy production, mainly to overhaul, continue unfinished units, or extend existing facilities such as thermo-power plants (Rovinari, Mintia, Halanga, Doicesti), hydro-power stations (Tarnita-Lapusesti, Bicaz), or the Cernavoda nuclear plant (additional reactors 3 and 4).

The tourist resort is situated 35 km from the town of Bicaz and 25 km distance from the town of Gheorgheni, over the Pangarati pass (1,254 m), that is part of the national road 12C, that connects Transylvania to Moldavia.
