Bliss, Lizzie Plummer

(1864–1931) art collector; born in Boston, Mass. Her wealthy family moved to New York City (1866), and she was educated privately. She began her collection of modern American and French art in 1907. A patron of the Armory Show (1913), she was one of the founders of the Museum of Modern Art (1929), and bequeathed much of her collection to that institution.
