Blumer Herbert

Blumer Herbert

(1900-87) US sociologist who was a student and a teacher at the University of Chicago. He is best known as a teacher and writer in the symbolic interactionist tradition deriving from G. H. MEAD (see Blumer, Symbolic Interactionism, 1969). He coined the term SYMBOLIC INTERACTIONISM. See also VARIABLE.
