Braddock, James J. (Joseph)

(1905–74) boxer; born in New York City. He won one of boxing's greatest upsets when he decisioned world heavyweight champion Max Baer in 1935. In his first defense of the crown, he lost by a knockout to Joe Louis in 1937.
