Cervantes fashioned his hero after the great adventurers of chivalric novels which were popular in his time, and it is no coincidence that Fernando's horse in El ultimo caballo is named "Bucefalo," after Alexander the Great's famous horse, Bucephalus.
The conflict is resolved as Fernando is able to find the documents that accredit him as owner of the horse, and literally saves Bucefalo as he was about to enter the bull ring.
