(23) Both canal volume ([mm.sup.3]) and surface areas (i.e., amount of dentin removal) were measured by subtracting the scores for the treated canals from those recorded for the untreated counterparts using the CTAn v.1.12 software (Bruker-microCT, Kontich, Belgium).
For volumetric calculation of the voids, the original grey-scale images were processed with a Gaussian low-pass filter for noise reduction and an automatic segmentation threshold to subtract dentin from gutta-percha, sealer, and voids using the CTAn software.
Three-dimensional images were accessed at a resolution of 8 [micro]m/pixel and the images were reconstructed using NReconserver 1.6.7 software (SkyScan, Kontich, Belgium) and analyzed with CTAn program (CTAn 1.12.0, SkyScan).
The scaffold degradation rate, which was calculated as original implant volume minus residual implant volume divided by original implant volume, and the new bone growth volume were then analyzed using a CTAn program (Skyscan Co.), which is used to examine (micro-CT) datasets for morphometry and densitometry.
The trabecular/cortical BMD, trabecular bone volume fraction [bone volume/total volume (BV/TV)], trabecular/cortical thickness, and cortical area were measured and analyzed by Skyscan CTAn v.1.1.7 software (Bruker-MicroCT).
To calculate the volumes of the fillings, the original gray scale images were processed with a slight Gaussian low-pass filtration for noise reduction, and an automatic segmentation threshold was used to separate root dentine from filling and voids, using CTAn v.1.12 software (Bruker-microCT).
