In the fossil sites, this is a consequence of the absence in Arroyo del Olivar-Puente de Vallecas and Paracuellos 3 of the species Cainotherium miocaenicum or a member of the genus Amphechinus, the latter showing a clear preference for arid environments (Furio et al., 2011).
