Callistephus

 

a genus of annual herbaceous plants of thefamily Compositae, with one species, China aster (Callistephuschinensis). In floriculture this species, which is also commonlyknown as the annual aster, is represented by numerous varieties.These varieties differ in height, form, structure, and color of theanthodium.

Callistephus (China aster) takes its named from the Greek kallos meaning beauty and stephos, a crown - supposedly referring to the shape of the seed.
