On the southwestern border of LA, south of Lake Charles; organized Mar 15, 1870 from Calcasieu and Vermilion parishes. Name Origin: For Robert Alexander Cameron, a Confederate soldier active in LA politics after the Civil War; or possibly for Simon Cameron (1799-1889), U.S. senator from PA (1845-49; 1857-61; 1867-77) and secretary of war (1861-62)
