Caprellidea, a suborder of the order Amphipoda (Crustacea, Malacostraca, Peracarida), comprises more than 300 described species and is classified into eight families (Caprellidae, Caprellinoididae, Caprogammaridae, Cyamidae, Paracercopidae, Pariambidae, Phtisicidae, and Protellidae; Laubitz, 1993; Martin and Davis, 2001).
Seven species from five caprellid families (Caprellidae, Caprellinoididae, Pariambidae, Phtisicidae, and Protellidae) and nine species from four corophioidean families (Ampithoidae, Corophiidae, Ischyroceridae, and Podoceridae) were collected at various sites along the coast of Japan (Table 1).
