Caruaru

(kəro͞oəro͞o`), city (1991 pop. 213,697), Pernambuco state, NE Brazil, on the Ipojuca River. It is a commercial center in an agricultural and cattle-raising area.

a city in northeastern Brazil in Pernambuco state, on the Recife-Salgueiro railroad line. Population, 142, 800(1970). Caruaru is an important trade and distribution center of the state. It is the site of food, textile, leather, and other indus-tries.
