A further important objective of the LCP was to draw on and learn from previous work on participatory catchment management
and previous STS critiques of participatory initiatives, with a particular emphasis on the politics of knowledge and on leaving open the definition of 'the problem' (Tsouvalis and Waterton, 2012b; Waterton et al, 2006).
This project was funded by the North East Catchment Management
Authority and the former Department of Sustainability and Environment.
This article therefore considers two local water groups: one that is orientated towards well-established 'scientific' modes of catchment management
, and another that offers an alternative perspective.
From these experiences, participatory catchment management
was defined as an approach which involved communities in the analysis of their own soil and water problems, with external facilitatory and catalytic support.
The forum introduced the Tweed Catchment Management
Plan last November and has just appointed a project officer, Sarah Currie, to steer the three-year plan.

In the water program, we try in general to promote integrated water catchment management
programs, with global initiatives such as the Living Lakes program.

Aquadata has been designed to improve the sharing of water quality monitoring results with the community and to assist consideration of water quality data within the catchment planning and catchment management
decision making process.
