Cement Industry, Institute of the

 

(full name, All-Union Scientific Research Institute of the Cement Industry, NIITsement), an institute under the authority of the Ministry of the Building Materials Industry of the USSR, founded in Moscow in 1947. The institute is primarily concerned with scientific problems that determine technological progress in the cement industry, developing cements with special properties for different sectors of construction, and conducting research on cement theory. It has an experimental design office and pilot and experimental plants. The institute offers graduate study in residence and through correspondence courses to prepare scientific cadres; it also publishes collections on special topics.
