Guard Mounting

the inspection of the guards detailed daily from the troops of a garrison or from within a unit.

Guard mounting involves inspecting the guards for readiness to carry out their duties, transferring them to the appropriate command, and granting them the right to relieve the previous guards. In the Soviet armed forces guard mounting is carried out by the officer of the guard and of interior, or ship, guards by the officer of the day. The procedure for guard mounting was first established in the Russian Army and Navy by military regulations published in 1716.
