Size: 640,000 acres.
Location:Eastern Tennessee. Accessible by US 11, 64, 165, 321/11E, 411, and 421; TN 68, 70, and 81; I-40, I-75, and I-181. Nearby cities/towns include Chattanooga, Cleveland, Ducktown, Benton, Etowah, Knoxville, Newport, Greeneville, Johnson City, and Elizabethton.
Facilities:30 campgrounds, dispersed camping, 30 picnic sites, trails (700 miles), boat ramps.
Activities:Camping, hunting, fishing, boating, swimming, rafting, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding.
Special Features:Ocoee Whitewater Center, site of the 1996 Olympic Games canoe and kayak competitions; 7 whitewater rivers; John Muir and Warrior's Passage national recreation trails; 170 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (see entry in national trails section). Forest is split into two sections by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (see entry in national parks section).
