a city in Northeast China, on the Sungari River, in Heilungkiang Province. Population, more than 200,000 (1959). The city is a river port. The machine-building industry is represented by plants producing electrical, transportation and mining equipment and agricultural machinery. The city also produces wood products, paper, and food products, including sugar, flour, vegetable oil, meat and dairy products, alcoholic beverages, and confectionery.
