a castle in Switzerland, on the shore of Lake Geneva. The earliest known reference to Chillón dates from 1150. The castle was rebuilt several times between the 13th and 14th centuries. The present chapel was built in the 13th century, and the interior ornamentation dates from the 15th and 16th centuries.
During the Middle Ages, the castle was the residence of the counts and, later, the dukes of Savoy. The Swiss political figure F. Bonivard was imprisoned in the dungeon of Chillón from 1530 until 1536.
