Chortkov

 

a city (since 1939) and administrative center of Chortkov Raion, Ternopol’ Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Situated on the Seret River, 76 km southeast of Ternopol’. Railroad station. Population, 22,000 (1974). Chortkov has enterprises servicing the railroad industry, a repair plant, a sugar refinery, a cheese factory, a vodka distillery, a meat-packing plant, a bread-baking combine, a garment factory, and a factory for the manufacture of down and feather articles. The city has a historical museum.
