Chrome OS

A Linux-based operating system from Google that is designed for Web-based applications and cloud computing. Combined with the Chrome Web browser, the first Chrome OS laptops (Chromebooks) were introduced in 2011. A year later, the Chromebox desktop model was introduced. See Chromebook.

Due to the fragmentation of the Android platform, it has been rumored that the Chrome OS will merge with the Android OS in the future to provide a uniform platform between mobile and desktop devices. Time will tell. See Android fragmentation.
