Clifton, James(1927– ) anthropologist; born in St. Louis. He received a Ph.D. from San Francisco State in 1960 and taught at Colorado and Kansas before becoming codirector of the Developmental Change Program at the University of Wisconsin: Green Bay. The author of Cultural Anthropology (1967), his research fields were cultural change, urbanization, and culture and personality.
