Cordillera de Vilcanota

 

a mountain range in south-eastern Peru, situated between the Paucartambo (Yavero) and Vilcanota (Urubamba system) river valleys. The range is 250 km long and composed chiefly of Precambrian and Lower Paleozoic rock. In the south it is linked with the Cordillera de Carabaya by the glacial massif Ausangate (6,384 m). Its slopes are covered with mountain tropical rain forests.

El 1% se pierde en un plazo de 50 anos en la Cordillera de Vilcanota, Peru (Jameson & Ramsay 2007) hasta multiples fragmentos que se talan en menos de 12 anos en el noreste de los Andes Bolivianos (Purcell & Brelsford 2004).
El numero de especies registradas en el presente trabajo en suelos crioturbados en la Cordillera Blanca (Ancash) es bastante mayor a las 18 especies reportadas por Tupayachi (2005) para la Cordillera de Vilcanota (Cusco), para este mismo habitat.
