Cortin

 

cortine naturelle, an extract from the adrenal cortex of slaughter cattle; a hormonal preparation. Cortin, in solution, is injected subcutaneously or intramuscularly for adrenocortical insufficiency. It is also used for asthenia connected with acute or chronic disease and in cases of malnutrition.

Several years ago, epilepsy researchers at Duke University in Durham, N.C., discovered double cortin (DCX), a microtubule-associated protein that is expressed by newly differentiated and migrating neurons.
