Cowl

A metal cover fitted with louvers, often capable of rotating, fixed on a roof ventilator or chimney to improve the natural ventilation or draft.

A protective hood on a vertical pipe (such as a soil stack or vent pipe); used to exclude rain-water and snow.

A covering surrounding the whole, or part, of an engine or a power unit installed on the aircraft. It is either hinged or other-wise removable. Cowls minimize drag and help cool the engine.
