an ancient measure of length based on the length of the forearm
The principal measure of length used in Ancient Egypt, Babylon, Israel and Greece. It was based on the length of the forearm, and varied from 525 to 445 mm. This forearm measure was called “braccia” in medieval and Renaissance Italy, and varied from city to city.
A linear unit of measurement used by the ancients; in ancient Egypt, equal to 20.62 in. (52.4 cm).
