Cukor, George

(1899–1983) movie director; born in New York City. Originally a stage director, he made his screen debut with Grumpy (1930). Specializing in sophisticated comedy, he often worked with Katharine Hepburn, and won an Academy Award for directing My Fair Lady (1964).
