Eaton, Cyrus


Born Dec. 27, 1883, in Pugwash, Nova Scotia, Canada. Public figure of the USA, industrialist.

Eaton graduated from McMaster University in Toronto in 1905. In 1913 he adopted American citizenship and became an entrepreneur. After World War II he was one of the leaders of the Cleveland financial group. In the early 1950’s he became active in American public life. He has repeatedly spoken out in favor of lessening international tension and implementing the principles of peaceful coexistence. He initiated the Pugwash Conferences, attended by outstanding scientists and public figures of the world. In 1960 he received the International Lenin Prize for Strengthening Peace Between Nations.
