(45) Descriptions of adenovirus
cytopathic effect in cytologic specimens are limited in the literature.
Infected Vero cells depicted typical
cytopathic effect, exhibiting cell detachment and rounding.
ORFV was grown in LT cells and it was monitored daily for development of
cytopathic effects. Virus titres determined by (TCID50) were [10.sup.8.1]/ml for UPM 1/14 and [10.sup.7.2]/ml for UPM 2/14.
In this same study, the effect of the virus was evaluated when applied after the treatment with propolis, without changes in the
cytopathic effect. On the other hand, when virus and propolis were applied simultaneously to the culture, similar results were obtained as in the pre-treatment, in which a lower
cytopathic effect was shown to take place (Mahmoud y Isanu, 2002).
Cytopathic effect of the herpes simplex virus type 1 appears stereologically as early as 4 h after infection of Vero cells.
The cytotoxicity assay was performed before the antiviral screening using the end point
cytopathic effect assay method on L20B cells.
Table 1: Definition of the
cytopathic effect of rabbit serum dermatotsellyulyarnoy TSPD50.
Light and transmission electron microscopy observations are reported on the structure and in vitro
cytopathic effect of Acanthamoeba griffini trophozoites isolated from a clinical case.
The results showed that punicalagin reduced the viral
cytopathic effect on rhabdomyosarcoma cells with an [IC.sub.50] value of 15 [micro]g/ml.
Culture involves inoculating cell monolayers with a patient sample and inspecting for
cytopathic effect after one to 14 days of incubation.
Though the precise mechanism is not well known, HCVinduced steatosis is recognized as the sole route for a direct
cytopathic effect by the hepatitis C virus.1 There are several mechanisms which may account for the relationship between steatosis and necroinflammation.
Cytopathic effect (CPE) is observed in next 24-72 hours, the CPE consists of retraction of the cell membrane from surrounding cells and eventually rounding of the cells with margination of nuclear chromatin (Davies and Mbugwa, 1985).
