DASD

(Direct Access Storage Device) Pronounced "daz-dee." A peripheral storage device that is directly addressable. Although DASDs used to refer to magnetic disks and drums, today, DASD means magnetic disk. The term is used mostly in the mainframe world. See magnetic disk and disk drive.
