Dax

(däks), town (1990 pop. 20,119), Landes dept., SW France, in Gascony, on the Adour River. It has long been famous for its hot mineral springs. An aviation school is in the town.

Dax

 

a spa in the Landes department of France, situated 148 km south of Bordeaux, on the Adour River.

It has a warm marine climate. The average annual temperature is 8°C. Summers are very warm with an average July temperature of 22°C; winters are mild with an average January temperature of 5°C. The average annual precipitation is about 900 mm. Medicinal remedies include hot radon sulfur-chloride calcium-magnesium springs, the water of which is used for baths, drinking, inhalation, and irrigation. Patients with illnesses of the motor and support organs, sequelae of traumas, diseases of the peripheral nervous system, and gynecological and children’s diseases are treated here. Dax has sanatoriums, hotels, boarding houses, bathhouses, theaters, museums, and sports facilities. It is also a tourist center.

Paris CAC 40 dropped 2.02%, Frankfurt's DAX 30 slumped 2.19%, London's FTSE 100 index lost 1.69% and Madrid dropped 2.65% around 11:15 GMT.
In London, the FTSE-100 index of top companies closed down 0.33 percent at 5,527.16 points but losses elsewhere were substantial -- the Paris CAC-40 fell 2.25 percent to 3,123.55 points and in Frankfurt the DAX 30 fell 2.72 percent to 5,966.16 points.
Market share increased across the major indices versus the previous year, taking Chi-X Europe's share above 25% in the FTSE 100 and over 20% in the AEX 25, BEL 20, CAC 40 and DAX 30.

German equities advanced today where the benchmark index DAX 30 ended higher by 27.87 points or 0.45% to close at 6194.21.
French shares fell 10.62% in morning trade to their lowest point in over five years before rallying slightly while Frankfurt's DAX 30 index slumped 10.13% and London's FTSE 100 index by more than 9%.
Frankfurt's DAX 30 index was up 1.75 per cent after Tokyo's stock market had bounced back earlier.
"Given that in reality central banks have not been sitting idly by - but instead sounding more hawkish by the day - they likely underestimate the true hits to GDP that are around the corner." In Europe, London's FTSE 100 index was down 1.98 per cent at 5,403.80 points and Frankfurt's DAX 30 shed 1.99 per cent to 6,268.78.
In Europe, France's CAC-40 Index tumbled 6.8% to 4,744.15, and Germany's blue-chip DAX 30 plunged 7.2% to 6,790.19.
Germany's DAX 30 fell 1.2 per cent to 5395.61 and the French CAC 40 index opened 1.2 per cent lower but later recovered.
The company examined the web sites of the top 40 CAC companies and the DAX 30 and identified key problem areas such as complicated linking and confusing nested frames, inaccurate page titles and incomplete descriptions.
Germany's DAX 30 fell 109.14 points, or 2.51%, to 4,245.68.
