The degree of pain, self-described on a 10-point scale, was extracted from free-text entries in the medical history section of the DBQ. We separately recorded degree of pain with and without medications when these were differentiated in the chart.
Data were collected using a questionnaire containing demographic information, the Physical Self-Efficacy Scale (PSE), Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Resilience Questionnaire, SOEA, and Decisional Balance Questionnaire (DBQ).

Bender also explained that after students were hooked by a simulation, they were able to focus on more routine but necessary learning activities, such as taking notes and writing document based questions (DBQ's) for the state exam:
