DNP3

(Distributed Network Protocol 3) A data link layer 2 protocol used in SCADA systems mostly in the electrical and water distribution industries. It provides the packet transmission between remote sensors and the SCADA control center. DNP3 is part of the IEEE 1379-2000 standard for best practices in SCADA communications. See SCADA, ICCP and data link protocol.

There are many types of SCADA system architectures and communications protocols in use today such as DNP3 [3] and Modbus [4] protocols.
It also provides DNP3 as well as IEC 61850 communication.
OPC is the latest protocol to be supported in the CyberFence family that provides robust cyber security for industrial protocols including DNP3, MODBUS TCP, BACNet, EtherNet/IP and CANopen/CAN bus.
As a contributor of the COW-II project, Sierra Wireless provided its industry leading 4G LTE AirLink gateways that have the capability to translate DNP3 protocol, widely used in electric utility's equipment, into MQTT, a state-of-the- art Internet of Things (IoT) messaging protocol.
The addition of a complete BACnet protocol parsing and validation capability, complementing similar capabilities for Modbus, OPC, DNP3, EtherNet /IP, and Canbus, underscores the CyberFence line's utility as one of the industry's most comprehensive, extensible and productivity-enabling solutions available for ICS.
Direct connection to Simatic PCS 7 TeleControl or Simatic WinCC/TeleControl is also possible using the telecontrol protocols IEC 60870-5-104 and DNP3. In this way, support for wide-ranging telecontrol protocols enables flexible connection to any optional Scada systems.
