Daphni

a monastery in Greece, 10 km from Athens. It was an outstanding monument of Byzantine architecture—the cross vaulted Church of the Assumption (second half of the 11th century), with a dome supported by pendentives and decorated with mosaics. It is distinguished by the purity of its design, the softness of a silvery color scheme, and the stately clearness of its images, reflecting the influence of Hellenistic art.
