Dagestanskie Ogni

 

an urban-type settlement in the Dagestan ASSR. Railroad station 12 km northwest of Derbent. Population, 10,000 (1970). There is a glass plant (producing wall tiles, windowpanes and fiberglass), which was opened in 1926 and operates on local gas, the mirabilite of the Kara-Bogaz-Gol, and the quartz sands of Karabudakhkent (Dagestan ASSR). There is also a grape-growing sovkhoz and wine plant, a brick plant, and a rug industry.
