Daniel, Peter V. (Vivian)

(1784–1860) Supreme Court justice; born in Stafford County, Va. He served the Virginia legislature (1812–35) and as a U.S. district judge (1836–41). President Van Buren named him to the U.S. Supreme Court (1842–60), where he supported Jeffersonian principles.
