1848–1925, English botanist, assistant to his father, Charles Robert DarwinDarwin, Charles Robert,
1809–82, English naturalist, b. Shrewsbury; grandson of Erasmus Darwin and of Josiah Wedgwood. He firmly established the theory of organic evolution known as Darwinism.

. He lectured in botany at Cambridge and was foreign secretary of the Royal Society and president of the British Association. He edited the Life and Letters of Charles Darwin (1887) and was knighted in 1913.
