Finally, the compact open cluster NGC 2362 lies 15[degrees] due south of the Canis Major OB1 Association and 2 1/2[degrees] northeast of Delta Canis Majoris. Its brightest star is 4.4-magnitude Tau ([tau]) CMa.
This 2[degrees] semicircle of 4th- to 6th-magnitude stars is centered on Delta Canis Majoris, the Big Dog's rump.
