The company has built what's effectively a 'cookie jar' called DigitalMe on top of Novell Directory Services (NDS) which consumers can get their hands on through the portals, ASPs, ISPs and retailers Novell hopes will buy DigitalMe, but more importantly, the NDS server it runs on.
A major target for this work would be Novell Inc's Digitalme infomediary-enabling tool, which is written in Java.
Meantime, Novell says its only plan to pursue open source technology development at the moment is to make the Digitalme client available under an open source model.
But we have learned that it will be a combination of the Digitalme personal privacy technology, which is based on Novell Directory Services (NDS), IBM's WebSphere application server and tools, Novell's Border Manager security software and Novell's Java virtual machine.
