Direct Motion of Planets

 

as seen from the earth, the west to east motion of the planets relative to the stars, that is, in the direction of their actual revolution about the sun. When a superior planet is near opposition or an inferior planet is near inferior conjunction, it appears to move in the opposite direction (retrograde motion).
