Coupling of two circuits by means of a non-frequency-sensitive device, such as a wire, resistor, or battery, so both direct and alternating current can flow through the coupling path.
(mechanical engineering)
The direct connection of the shaft of a prime mover (such as a motor) to the shaft of a rotating mechanism (such as a pump or compressor).
