Conquest also noted that after Golda Meir visited Moscow in late 1948 (and was warmly received by many Soviet officials), Stalin started another purge of Jews in the country, leading to the notorious "Doctors Plot" of 1952-1953 when Stalin arrested Moscow physicians (most of them Jewish) whom he charged with seeking to poison and kill Soviet leaders on behalf of the British and Americans.
