In north-central TX, east of Abilene; organized Feb 1, 1858 from Bosque, Coryell, and Travis counties. Name Origin: For William Mosby Eastland (1806-43), Texas Revolutionary officer executed by Mexican Gen. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna (1794-1876)
