Size: 19,324 acres.
Established: Authorized on November 10, 1978.
Location:On central Whidbey Island off the coast of western Washington. The island is easily accesible from the mainland by automobile via SR 20 from Anacortes. The Washington State Ferry System provides year-round service to the island from Port Townsend and Mukilteo.
Facilities:Gas, food, and loding are available within the reserve in the town of Coupeville. Campsites are available at two state parks within the reserve (Fort Casey State Park and Fort Ebey State Park).
Activities:Camping, hiking, scuba diving, self-guided walking, biking, auto touring.
Special Features:This area of central Whidbey Island, encompassing the community of Coupeville, protects important natural and historic features. Reserve commemorates: the first thorough exploration of the Puget Sound area by Captain George Vancouver in 1792; settlement by Colonel Isaac Neff Ebey, who led the first permanent white settlers to Whidbey Island; the early active years to the Donation Land Law of 1850-55; and the growth since 1883 of the historic town of Coupeville.
