Edible Snail

 

(Helix pomatia), an invertebrate of the subclass Pulmonata of the class Gastropoda. The edible snail is widely found in Europe. It lives at the edges of forests, in parks, and in brush and spends the winter in the soil. It feeds on green leaves and humus. In southern and southwestern Europe both local and imported edible snails are consumed as food. Because of an increase in the consumption of edible snails, special breeding farms have been set up. The edible snail is not an agricultural pest.
