Konzert in a-Moll, aus der Oper Emma und Eginhard, fur Violine und Orchester, TWV 51:a2.
Miriways and Die Last-tragende Liebe, oder Emma und Eginhard, two of the three Telemann operas that premiered in 1728 (the third was Die verkehrte Welt), are among the most important volumes issued by Barenreiter in the Telemann Musikalische Werke during recent years.
Musically, Miriways seems rather plain when compared to Telemann's earlier Hamburg operas and, to some extent, Emma und Eginhard, with notably less in the way of colorful scoring, ensemble arias, choruses, and dances.
Emma und Eginhard followed Miriways at the Hamburg Opera by less than six months.
Like Telemann's opera Der neumodische Liebhaber Damon of 1724, Emma und Eginhard opens with a three-movement violin concerto (TWV 51:a2) in place of the traditional French overture.
